Shrouded Fable: the most expensive Pokémon cards

The ranking of the most expensive Shrouded Fable cards with live prices: the most expensive card in the set is a basic energy, and that is not a mistake.

Versione italiana: leggila qui.

Shrouded Fable came out on 2 August 2024 and it is a mini set: 64 official cards, half of a normal expansion. It also has a quirk you will not find anywhere else: the most expensive card in the set is a basic energy.

We ran every card in the set through the DarkDex pricing engine and sorted by value. These are real single-card prices, Near Mint, the lowest available across sellers, updated on 7 September 2026.

In short. Basic Darkness Energy #098 leads at 73.90 €, followed by Persian #078 at 60.64 € and Houndoom #066 at 49.87 €. Two of the top five are gold energies. Completing everything costs 760.68 €, and the base set cards cost 17.41. Prices as of 7 September 2026.

The ranking: the 15 most expensive cards in Shrouded Fable

Every card in the set above 23 €. In a 107-card set, that is already one card in seven.

Why a basic energy costs 74 euro

It is not a measurement error: the Basic Darkness Energy #098 is a Hyper Rare, the gold version of the energy, and one of the hardest printings in the set to find. The same energy in the ordinary version you actually put in a deck costs a few cents.

There is a second one just below, the Basic Metal Energy #099 at 40.51 €, which is also the card that closes the numbering.

The reason they weigh so much here is that Shrouded Fable is small: with only 64 official cards the special printings are few, and each is proportionally harder to pull. In a 200-card set the gold energies end up at the bottom of the ranking; here they sit at the top.

The Persian that is worth 551 times itself

The card we would point at is not first, it is second: the Persian #078 at 60.64 €. It is an Illustration Rare of a first-generation Pokémon that does nothing in the game, and it beats every one of the set's four protagonists. The same goes for the Houndoom #066 at 49.87 € and the Horsea #067 at 39.52 €, third and sixth in the set: three old commons, ahead of everything the expansion was actually built to sell.

That same Persian, in the ordinary base set printing, costs 11 cents. Five hundred and fifty-one times, same card, same set.

The four protagonists, in price order

Shrouded Fable is built around Pecharunt and the three Kitakami Pokémon. Each appears in four printings, and the comparison shows how a modern set really works:

PokémonMost expensive printingThe ordinary one
Fezandipiti ex40.52 € (#092)4.00 € (#038)
Pecharunt ex34.96 € (#095)1.10 € (#039)
Munkidori23.42 € (#072)0.50 € (#037)
Okidogi ex21.40 € (#090)0.35 € (#036)

None of them reaches the 74 € of the gold energy. In a small set the value goes where the scarcity is, not where the story is.

⚠️ Note how little separates them: from the most expensive protagonist to the cheapest there are barely twenty euro, in a set whose top card is a gold energy at 74.

What is the rarest card in Shrouded Fable

There is no official answer, because pull rates are not published. If you mean the signature card, the honest answer is that this set does not have one: the most expensive card is an energy, the second is a Persian and the third is a Houndoom.

If you mean the printing that closes the numbering, it is the Basic Metal Energy #099 at 40.51 €, and for once it is also among the most expensive.

Why the gold energies sit at the top

It is worth spelling out, because it is a rule and not an accident. A gold basic energy exists in almost every modern set, and almost everywhere it lands near the bottom of the ranking, buried under alternate arts of popular Pokémon.

In Shrouded Fable it wins, and the reason is arithmetic: with 64 official cards instead of 180 to 280, there are far fewer special printings to spread the demand across. Two gold energies in a set this small are proportionally much harder to come by than two gold energies in a set three times the size.

👉 Which means the price is telling you something real about the set's shape rather than something about energy cards. In the mini sets, scarcity beats popularity.

How many cards does Shrouded Fable have

The set has 64 official cards and reaches 99 with the special printings.

What it costs to complete Shrouded Fable

Adding up the cheapest Near Mint copy of each of the 107 cards: 760.68 €:

  • the base set costs 17.41 € in total
  • the 35 special printings cost 743.27 €
  • the median card costs 11 cents, and 71 of 107 are under one euro
  • take out the top three and the other 104 cost 576.27 €, one of the flattest distributions we have seen

Seventeen euro for a complete base set is the lowest figure we have ever measured, and the reason is simply that there are so few cards.

In practice you spend more: shipping goes on top and the cards come from different sellers.

Heads up. Prices move constantly, and on a small set they move in jumps. These numbers are a snapshot of the market on 7 September 2026.

A 761 € set with 107 cards has a higher value per card than almost any other: 7.11 € against 1.83 € for Obsidian Flames. Mini sets work like that: less filler, so every card carries more.

Singles or sealed

On a 64-card set packs go further than usual, because the pool of different cards is small and useful duplicates arrive sooner. But a base set at 17.41 € in singles is unbeatable: no quantity of packs gets close.

For the specials the calculation flips, as always: the top card costs 74 €, and 74 € of packs will not get you there.

How to keep an eye on them

On DarkDex you add your Shrouded Fable cards to your collection and the value updates itself, with every variant kept separate. It is a good set to start keeping track with: few cards, a reachable finish line, and the satisfaction of a collection that actually closes.
