Fusion Strike: the most expensive Pokémon cards

Fusion Strike came out on 12 November 2021 and it is the biggest set of the Sword & Shield era: 264 official cards. It is also the most lopsided set we have measured after Phantasmal Flames: twenty cards out of 284 hold 82% of the value, and one of them holds half.

We ran every card in the set through the DarkDex pricing engine and sorted by value. These are real single-card prices, Near Mint, the lowest available across sellers, updated on 7 September 2026.

In short. Gengar VMAX #271 costs 1,314.45 €, Mew VMAX #269 344.75 € and Espeon VMAX #270 320.98 €. The top three alone are 75% of the set. All 264 base set cards together cost 474.53 €. Prices as of 7 September 2026.

The Gengar VMAX #271, the card that is the set

The 1,314.45 € of the alternate art Gengar VMAX is 49.6% of everything in Fusion Strike. To give it a scale: the other 283 cards in the set, all together, are worth 1,334 €.

The internal comparison explains what happened to this set on its own:

Twenty-four times, for an identical playable card. The drawing of Gengar stretching across the wall is one of the most copied illustrations of the past few years, and the market priced it accordingly.

The same goes for the Mew VMAX, which exists in three versions: 344.75 € for the alternate art (#269), 80.64 € for the gold (#268), 10.86 € for the ordinary one (#114).

The deck that dominated for two years costs under fifteen euro

Fusion Strike produced the Mew VMAX deck, one of the strongest and longest-lived in the recent history of the game. The cards that make it work, in the versions people actually play, cost this much:

The whole deck, in tournament-legal printings, is under fifteen euro. The same cards in their illustrated versions cost 344.75 € (Mew VMAX #269), 28.96 € (Genesect V #255) and 7.21 € (Elesa's Sparkle #275).

👉 Playing and collecting are two hobbies with two prices here, and no overlap: the player buys the eleven-cent version, the collector buys the three-hundred-euro one, and they are the same card.

The base set costs 475 euro, twenty cards cost 2,174

This is the number that defines Fusion Strike:

Two hundred and sixty-four cards are worth a fifth of twenty cards. And inside those twenty, three are three quarters.

Which means "collecting Fusion Strike" can mean two very distant things: putting together the complete base set, a few hundred euro across 264 pieces, or chasing three cards that cost two thousand.

What is the rarest card in Fusion Strike

There is no official answer, because pull rates are not published. If you mean the signature card, it is the Gengar VMAX #271. If you mean the printing that closes the numbering, it is a Fire Energy #284, a gold energy at 7.79 €.

How many cards does Fusion Strike have

The set has 264 official cards and reaches 284 with the special printings, making it the largest of the Sword & Shield era.

What it costs to complete Fusion Strike

Adding up the cheapest Near Mint copy of each of the 284 cards: 2,648.32 €. But:

• take out the top three and the other 281 cards cost 668.14 €
• take out the top ten and 228.06 € is left for 274 cards
• the median card costs 11 cents, and 228 of 284 are under one euro

Two hundred and seventy-four cards for 228 € is, proportionally, one of the cheapest sets to put together. Then there are the three at the top, and the bill multiplies by twelve.

In practice you spend more: shipping goes on top and the cards come from different sellers.

Fusion Strike against the rest of Sword & Shield

Fusion Strike and Crown Zenith cost almost exactly the same to complete, and they could not be more different. Crown Zenith spreads 2,652 € across dozens of cards worth fifty to three hundred euro each; Fusion Strike puts half of its 2,648 € into one. Same bill, opposite experience: one set you work through, the other you either buy or you do not.

How concentrated Fusion Strike is next to other sets

Fusion Strike is second, and it is the only one near the top that is also an enormous set: the others with this concentration are small ones, where a single card weighs more by construction. Here one card beats 283 others.

Singles or sealed

The set has been out of print for years and sealed product costs whatever the people holding it decide. Chasing the Gengar VMAX through packs means going after one card in 284 while spending far more on sealed than the other 280 cards would cost you outright.

For the base set, singles win without argument: 264 cards for 475 €, with the price known before you spend it.
