Pitch Black one week later: how the card prices have changed

Before launch, prices could only be estimated from the Japanese market. One week after the European release we compare the estimates with the real prices: what went up and what went down.

Versione italiana: leggi qui.

Before Pitch Black launched on 17 July, prices could only be estimated by looking at the Japanese market of the twin set (Abyss Eye). Now that a week has passed and we have the real European prices, we can do the most interesting thing: put the pre-launch estimates side by side with the real values. And there is a surprise.

The "before" figures are the estimates from the Japanese market; the "now" figures are real prices for singles in Near Mint condition, from the DarkDex pricing engine, as of 24 July 2026.

In short. One week in, the chase cards are more affordable than estimated: the Gold Secret Rare of Mega Darkrai ex was pegged at €428 and today is worth €227.64, while the Special Illustration Rare goes from an estimated €313 to €251.27. Conversely, some mid-tier cards beat their estimates. Prices as of 24 July 2026.

The sharpest contrast is at the top: the Gold Secret Rare loses almost half against the Japanese estimate, while the mid tier beats it. Track the prices on DarkDex and watch how they move week after week.

What went down: the chase cards

The most sought-after cards are worth less than expected. On the already-mature Japanese market, the Gold Secret Rare of Mega Darkrai ex was estimated at €428; at the European launch it settles at €227.64, almost half. Same story for the Special Illustration Rare, estimated at €313 and today at €251.27. It is the normal launch effect: in the first weeks fresh supply and unsettled demand weigh on prices. There is also an interesting flip: the estimate put the Gold ahead of the Special Illustration Rare, but on the Italian market today the order is reversed.

What went up: the mid tier

At the opposite end, some mid-tier cards beat their estimates. Mega Chandelure ex was estimated at €30.3 and today is worth €44.80; Mega Zeraora ex and Gwynn also grew versus forecast. When the chase cards cost less than expected, demand shifts to the more affordable full-art cards, and their prices rise.
