Is 30th Celebration worth buying now? Prices 48 hours after release

30th Celebration came out on 16 September 2026, and on that day none of the set's 200 singles had a price. On the 17th, 193 of them did, and a real price ranking became possible. Twenty-four hours later, on the 18th, the same cards cost almost half.

This is not one or two cards deflating: it is the whole set at once. The median 30th Celebration card went from 2.10 € to 0.70 €, and of the 193 cards measured twice, 153 lost more than 20% in a single day. In short. Between 17 and 18 September 2026 the total value of 30th Celebration singles fell from 4,625.85 € to 2,499.54 €. The cards at the top lost between a third and two thirds: the Lugia (Crystal) from 469.64 € to 220.66 €, the secret Pikachu ex (150) from 250.64 € to 75.64 €. The thirty pack-pulled Pikachu went from a median of 4.49 € to 2.04 €. Sealed product did not move, and specialist shops still ask 43% over list price. CardTrader prices, lowest Near Mint listings.

The median drop, measured across every card present in both readings, is 46%. Four cards stayed flat, nine went up, everything else came down.

Behind the individual numbers there is a change of order that matters more than the percentages: the Base Set Charizard overtook the Lugia (Crystal) and is now the most expensive card in the set, and the most expensive new card is no longer a Futuristic Rare but the Gengar ex (154) Special Illustration Rare, which sat ninth on day one. Anyone who bought the most expensive card in the set on 17 September paid 469.64 € for a card that cost 220.66 € the next day.

Why a day-one price is not a price yet

On release day, and for the twenty-four hours after it, the price of a freshly printed card does not measure what the card is worth: it measures what it costs to have it immediately. Whoever opened first sells to whoever will not wait, and until the set is genuinely in shops that number is the only one there is.

As soon as the cards start circulating, that premium gets absorbed, and that is exactly what the two readings show. The same thing happens to sealed product in every anniversary set, and it is the same reason the product guide works off list prices: the price of being in a hurry is a different thing from the price of the product.

This does not mean today's prices are the final ones. It means the day-one prices were not, and anyone using them as a reference, to buy or to value what they opened, was reading the wrong number.

What did not fall: sealed product

While the singles halved, sealed products stayed where they were. The Elite Trainer Box sits at 91.63 € against a list price of 59.90 €, the Battle Deck at 49.54 € against 24.90 €, the Binder Collection at 65.53 € against 49.90 €. The median markup over list price is 43%, essentially what it was on release day.

It is the part that surprises people most, and it has a simple explanation: singles are listed by whoever opens packs, and a lot has been opened in two days. Sealed product runs out instead, and half the range has not been released yet: the Booster Bundle and the Mini Tin arrive on 2 October, the Ultra Premium Collection, the Ditto Premium Collection and the figure collections on 6 November. While a product is scarce, its price has no reason to fall.

In practice: on singles the hurry has already been paid for by somebody else, on sealed you are still paying it yourself.

Is it worth buying 30th Celebration singles now?

It depends on what you are buying, and the two readings say three different things for three different cases.

1. If you need a specific card to finish the set, buying now costs almost half what it did two days ago. Waiting longer may save you a little more, but most of the fall has already happened: from 4,625.85 € on day one to 2,499.54 € today, what is left is far smaller than what you already saved by waiting twenty-four hours.
2. If you are buying to keep, the 25th anniversary precedent says look at the Classic Collection reprints before the new cards: five years on, in that set, reprints take 89% of the value. In 30th Celebration they are 47% today, and that is thirty cards against one hundred and sixty-six.
3. If you are buying the pack-pulled Pikachu, there is no rush and there will not be one. They are the card guaranteed in every pack of a simultaneous worldwide release, so they are the least rare cards in the product: they all sit between 1.60 € and 4.42 €, and that is their road. The opposite case is selling: if you opened in the first two days and have not sold, the best moment has passed. That is not financial advice, it is arithmetic about something that has already happened.

What the 25th anniversary set tells us

Celebrations, the 25th anniversary set, came out in October 2021 with the same architecture: new cards plus a Classic Collection of reprints, all holo, an enormous print run. Five years on, fourteen of its top fifteen cards are reprints, and the median new card is 0.17 €.

This is not a forecast for where 30th Celebration lands, because print runs are not published and the market never repeats itself exactly. It is, however, the only serious comparison that exists, and it is why reprints deserve more attention than the new rarities right now.
